Ep. 1: The ABCs of Volunteering

This first episode was a webinar that we have created into a podcast for those who missed it. We spoke with two very dynamic social development leaders who not only value volunteering but run organisations which demonstrate that value. Join us in conversation with Shivani and Trishya as we explore the concept of volunteering and its unexpected value to individuals, organisations and societies.

Shivani Singhal

Head, Dharohar

Shivani has been involved in nurturing formal and non-formal learning in varied contexts. After graduating from the University of Oxford with a degree in classics, she spent two years as a Teach For India fellow in a government school in Mumbai. Following this, she has established a volunteer learning programme for over 1800 people a year, working to build a love for learning in adults and children simultaneously. Programmes in Dharohar range from science and technology, to debating to art, craft and culture. They are designed to deliver strong learning outcomes for the volunteers delivering the content, and the kids and parents engaging with the workshops/resources.

In addition to her work for Dharohar, she has partnered with City Palace, Udaipur, to create learning resources for their museums, run self-directed learning workshops for children and parents and developed curriculum for a coding and CAD/CAM programme for a challenging community in the UK. When not working, she can be found outdoors - climbing, hiking and diving, curled up with good book or playing board games.
