Measuring Disability Prevalence and Access and Barriers to Public Services

Apnalaya-Disability-Report-1.png

ABC partnered with an NGO which works with some of the most marginalized people living in highly under-served slums of Mumbai.

The organisation had hypothesised that the Government's estimate of Persons with Disability in the Ward of concern was far less than the actual number, based on their own experience working in the area.

They thus engaged ABC to conduct a study of the Ward to measure the prevalence of disability in slum and non-slum areas, the access to services, and the perceived barriers to access. We also conducted a community mapping exercise to better understand supply-side barriers to access of facilities.

ABC designed the study, adapted internationally prescribed tools, trained and coordinated the work of the data collection team, and analysed and reported on the findings of the study. The final report - Disability in M East Ward’ can be downloaded here: https://apnalaya.org/publications/.
